§ 01 · The MarkMax Difference

Where Serious Students Lose Marks.

Even capable A-Level Maths students can underperform when weak foundations or poor exam execution go uncorrected. MarkMax identifies where marks are being lost, then systematically closes those gaps.

Weak Foundations Compound Fast

Small Year 12 misunderstandings rarely stay isolated. Left uncorrected, they compound quickly, making Year 13 feel more overwhelming.

MarkMax Fix

MarkMax rebuilds weak foundations before gaps become recurring limitations and confidence declines.

Knowing Content Isn't the Same as Scoring Highly

Many students understand more than their grades reflect, yet still lose marks through weak exam execution and uncertainty under pressure.

MarkMax Fix

MarkMax trains exam execution through timed assignments, board-specific questions, and strategic correction.

Better Grades Require More Than Hard Work

Progressing from B to A* means moving beyond memorised methods to solve unfamiliar problems calmly and independently under pressure.

MarkMax Fix

MarkMax pushes students beyond method recall through unfamiliar question practice and progressive challenges.

§ 02 · Tuition that actually works

“She’s never said a tuition was helping before yours.”

— Parent of Year 12 student, Edexcel Maths

Independent Mathematical Thinking

Students are taught to understand ideas rather than rely on memorised methods. Lessons emphasise reasoning, independence and application.

Teaching Clarity

Tutors are selected for both mathematical ability and teaching clarity. Every tutor receives training and completes a rigorous teaching assessment before joining MarkMax.

Structured Lesson Progression

Lessons are sequenced with curriculum dependencies built in, allowing tutors to adapt to individual student needs while maintaining clear academic direction.

Continuous Progress Monitoring

After each lesson, parents receive reports outlining progress and weaknesses identified. Homework targets both taught material and areas needing reinforcement.

§ 03 · Tuition Pathways

Two Tuition Pathways.
One Structured Standard.

Every student begins with an academic evaluation to identify the most effective pathway for long-term progression.

Pathway I

£65 / hour

Private 1‑to‑1 Tuition

Designed for students aiming for top grades or rebuilding foundations through fully individualised pacing and support.

Best For

  • Accelerated progression toward ambitious grade goals
  • Oxbridge, Russell Group and competitive apprenticeships
  • Precise support in weak or difficult areas
  • Fully individualised pacing and lesson strategy
  • Students benefiting from multiple weekly sessions

Pathway II

£40 / hour

Small-Group Cohorts (2–3 students)

Designed for students who begin serious preparation in Year 12 and benefit from learning alongside similarly motivated peers.

Why Families Choose Cohorts

  • Consistent weekly accountability and academic momentum
  • Carefully matched groups that progress together over time

Cohort places are reserved for Year 12 students. This ensures each group builds aligned foundations before progressing through Year 13 together.

§ 04 · Seasonal Programmes

Summer Intensives & Accelerators

Concentrated 5-day programmes for students who need to repair gaps or build a head start — fast.

§ 05 · Process

A Clear Path From Enquiry to Tuition

Every student begins with a short academic evaluation, after which a tailored recommendation is made.

I

Evaluate

We assess current ability, progression barriers, and pathway suitability.

II

Recommend

Parents receive an evaluation report and a recommended lesson plan.

III

Begin

Once a pathway and lesson times are agreed, tuition begins.

§ 06 · Frequently Asked

Considered Answers to Common Questions

01 Is online tuition as effective as in-person tuition?

Yes. Students can access highly specialised tutors regardless of location, with lessons taught live using collaborative software. Many students find learning from home less pressured, helping them engage more confidently during lessons.

02 What equipment is needed for online lessons?

Students only need a laptop or tablet for lessons, a phone for sending completed work, a stable internet connection and ordinary stationery.

03 How are tutors selected?

Tutors are selected for both mathematical ability and teaching clarity. Every tutor receives training and delivers a mock lesson before joining MarkMax, and all tutors are DBS checked.

04 How does the evaluation process work?

The evaluation is where students meet their tutor for the first time. A variety of topics are discussed to understand current ability and determine the most suitable pathway. No special preparation is required.

05 How is the recommended tuition pathway decided?

Recommendations are based on current level, target grades, time remaining and the amount of reinforcement required outside lessons. Students significantly behind may initially require more intensive support.

06 What is the difference between private tuition and cohorts?

Private tuition provides fully individualised pacing and targeted support, making it suitable for students rebuilding foundations, accelerating rapidly, or requiring multiple lessons per week.

Cohorts are small groups following a shared long-term progression plan, allowing students to strengthen foundations before moving through more demanding Year 13 content as a group.

07 What if my child needs multiple hours per week?

Students significantly behind or seeking major grade improvements may require multiple lessons per week. Private tuition is recommended to allow for fully individualised pacing and lesson frequency.

08 Why can’t Year 13 students join cohorts?

Cohorts begin in Year 12 while there is still enough time to strengthen foundations and build momentum across the group before moving through more demanding Year 13 content.

Students joining later are often working through different gaps and pacing requirements, making private tuition more effective for targeted support.
